We hold mêlées on the third Sunday and the first Wednesday of the month (See
the Calendar for exact dates). They are friendly
matches played over three rounds and are
enjoyed by experts and novices alike.
 | Registration for melees is from 12:15 to 12:45 with play starting at
13:00 on Sundays and 17:45 to 18:15 with play starting at 18:30 on
Wednesdays |
 | To play in a mêlée costs £2, to cover the cost of prizes.
|
 | Monthly mêlées, and the Turkey Trot mêlée in December, are open to
non-members, who must also pay a £1 ‘visitor’s fee’. |
 | The term ‘mêlée’ refers to the way your
partner is selected. |
In a mêlée, each player gets a number, which goes into a draw. The
numbers are then drawn in pairs (or triples when there’s a fantastic
turnout!) against other pairs (or triples). The rounds are played, and then
the numbers are redrawn. This makes sure that you don’t play with or against
the same people in every round. After all the rounds have been played, the
scores are worked out.
 | The winner is the person with the highest number of wins.
|
 | If that causes a draw, the points difference of each match is worked
out, so that the winner is the person with the highest number of wins and
the highest points difference. |
 | If there’s still a draw, we play off in a short game.
|
 | Prizes are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
|
Sounds complicated? It isn’t, it just means that everyone
has a chance of playing with new people, and winning. By the way, those who
get beaten 13-0 go onto
